At its meeting on Jan. 15, the Exchange Club of Effingham heard Sharyl Sutton, voter education coordinator at the Secretary of State’s office, speak about changes to secure the state’s election systems.
She explained how Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and his team partnered with the Department of Homeland Security, other government security agencies and private-sector security experts to provide a layered approach to cyber security.
New voting machines, not connected to the internet, will be in place for 2020 elections. For more information, go to https://securevotega.com/.
The club’s next meeting will be at noon on Feb. 5 at the Effingham Recreation Department on Ga. 119, Springfield. Melissa Miles, a retired educator and nurse, will speak about Super Heroes Success Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping children with special needs.
